In this publication, Ohlendorf and colleagues describe the construction of plasmids for blue light detection (pDusk and pDawn), induced by blue light, utilizing the two-component system YF1/FixJ. Although the dynamic range reported here is comparatively small, by using an inverter with the cI repressor, a blue-light inducible system could be developed with dyamic ranges over 500-fold.
